Maxine Nodel
Maxine Nodel is an award-winning, versatile artist who earned her B.F.A. from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. She exhibits and sells her work nationally and internationally. In 2002, Maxine was awarded a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant to create a visual art high school for economically disenfranchised students in the Bronx. In 2009, the school received the Lincoln Center Institute 1st-Place Award for Most Imaginative Curriculum in New York City. Maxine was also an art instructor at the National Art League in Douglaston, New York. She is a member of the Salmagundi Club and Edward Hopper House Art Center where she was named Artist of the Month in 2013 and later invited to give a public art talk about her design-based drawings. In 2021, Maxine's art was featured in the Italian Arts Journal, ilcentrotirreno.it when cultural journalist, Ippolita Sicoli, wrote an extensive review of her nature art.
StatementI enjoy using pastel to impressionistically interpret the nuanced and timeless beauty of nature. Depicting the intimate textures of color, light, and form allows me to invite the viewer to take a momentary respite from a destructive world and visit a place of celebratory calm and symbolic hope. - I also enjoy creating design-embedded multimedia drawings by fusing nature-based patterns with classical aesthetics to produce emotive metaphorical imagery.
