Brian Higbee was born and raised in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania, a small jazz town at the edge of the Delaware River and a stop over for hikers passing through on the Appalachian Trail. He began painting at a young age and continues his practice in the Hudson Valley. He has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally and is the recipient of 2 grants from the Puffin Foundation. He lives and works in Highland, NY.
StatementI make small, quiet oil paintings. My most recent series, Future Perfect, address the impending doom of climate change. The series includes paintings of extreme storms, flooding, droughts, fire and pipeline explosions. My previous series, Western State Terrorism, highlight the devastating impact of war by the US military and coalition forces in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Palestine. The paintings include bombings, remote drone warfare, tactical strafing, torture, and overt destruction of civilian infrastructure
