Ann Wang grew up in New York City and spent much of her life there. She moved to New Jersey many years ago with her husband and two children, but maintains close ties to New York. She has worked in many mediums, including oil paint, watercolor, and fiber. Most recently, she has been using colored pencils, often combining them with micron pens and pastels.
A starting point for a drawing can be something that appeals to me, an idea, or sometimes a doodle. However my drawings begin, I go in whatever direction they take me as they evolve. They rarely end up where they began, and work best when I have no preconceived notion of what a drawing should be. I am intrigued by ambiguity and how easily our perception of something can change. An image does not have to actually exist in the natural world for us to react to it emotionally or intellectually.
I have studied at the Art Students League, Parsons School of Design, and The Art School at Old Church. In addition, I have a Masters Degree from the City University of New York and a Bachelor's Degree from Stony Brook University. My work has been exhibited in New York and New Jersey.
