Renee Khatami
Khatami was raised in Manhattan, daughter of an Iranian father and American mother. She majored in Art at Bard College studied with Elizabeth Murray, and at The Art Student's League of New York with Bruce Dorfman. She holds Masters degrees in Design from Pratt Institute and Art Education from New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. ??The artist lives and works in New York City.
My work utilizes defined shapes, luminous layers of emerging and recessing transparent color. Texture evolves through the use of combined media–including water based paint, glue, pencil, and cut razor drawing on paper mounted on wood panels. Paper is the primary medium–a reference to my background in book design. While decisive choices are made in the process, I allow for unexpected outcomes rather than predetermined results. The art is one of progression–unique and strong in its subtlety.
