Anne Marie Leone

Anne Marie Leone is a freelance photojournalist and videographer. She has been director of photography for Women’s News, staff photographer for The Rivertowns Enterprise, and contributing writer/photographer for The Scarsdale Inquirer, Westchester Magazine, and Hudson Valley Magazine. A native New Yorker, Ms. Leone resides in Ossining along the Hudson River, one of her photographic passions. Her Hudson River photographs have been published in the Rivertowns Enterprise. Large archival prints of Hudson River themes have been exhibited at several regional libraries. A permanent installation of Hudson region images hangs at the Holiday Inn, The Hudson Valley Manor, in Mt. Kisco, New York. Interested in local history, Ms. Leone is co-author with former Larchmont historian Jay Doolin Spikes of a collection of photo histories—Larchmont Then and Now (2002) published by Fountain Square Press, New Rochelle Then and Now (2004) published by Fountain Square Press, Arcadia Publishing, Then and Now, Irvington (2009), Arcadia Publishing Then and Now, Dobbs Ferry (2012), and a series, “Then and Now in the Rivertowns.” These publications are based on images from early 20^th-century postcards and other sources, paired with 21^st-century photographs of the same sites taken as nearly as possible from the same vantage points. A brief history of each site is given.Before launching her photography career, Ms. Leone was an instructor in the Communications Media Arts program at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, where she directed “State of the Art,” a cable series about art and artists, and hosted “JUST ENGLISH,” an interactive show teaching English to adults of limited English proficiency.Currently, Ms. Leone has two Facebook pages devoted to photography. Gus & Us, a daily photo blog, about the adventures of her Morkie, Gus, and his brother, Skippy, a Maltese, both rescue dogs.Also, on Facebook, Photography by Anne Marie, posts current images of historic buildings and scenes in the Hudson region.

Artist’s Statement

Artist’s Statement:When my 3^rd grade teacher told us to draw a picture of what we wanted to be when we grew up, I drew a stick figure of myself standing in front of an easel and titled it, “ARTEST.” I soon realized that crayons, pencils and paint were not my forte. At 10 years old my mother handed me her folding Kodak camera. I finally found my tool. A camera gave me the opportunity to create what I was seeing. Fast forward to digital photography and I am able to shoot my image and enhance it with a digital artist’s brush.
