Keith Bernstein

Born 1956

In 1980 my mother asked me to go with her to an exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, London. Unwilling and slightly sulkily, I accompanied her; it was an Edward Hopper retrospective that affected me greatly that day and has steered my work in the 45 years since. 

Born in South Africa to politically active parents who fled the country in 1964. I hold dual South African and British nationality. I have been a photographer since leaving school; my work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy, London, the National Museum, Melbourne, the Apartheid History Museum, Cape Town. Limited edition prints are held in collections in the UK, USA, Italy, Brazil and France.
