James Offenhartz is a contemporary artist working in Port Chester, NY. James attended Manhattan’s
High School of Art and Design, The Art Students League NY, Pratt Institute, as well as the Accademia di Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci, in Perugia Italy, before graduating from Bennington College in 1982.
Inspired by the diverse and vibrant community of Port Chester, NY, James seeks to capture the invisible, yet noble moments of hardworking people to convey emotion and empathy in these fragile and all too splintered times.

Inspired by the diverse immigrant community of Port Chester, NY, I seek to capture portraits of the
invisible, yet noble moments of hardworking people to convey emotion and empathy in these fragile and all too splintered times. Working with oil paints, I used a layered, textured approach to portray subjects such as an elderly woman waiting to cross a street, a young girl on her cell phone during Covid and a woman collecting bottles and cans.
