Lisa Kachajian
Lisa Kachajian is an American photographer, a native New Yorker, and a New Jerseyan whose work is deeply influenced by music, painters, and photographers, alike. Born in New York City and raised in New Jersey, she grew up in an environment rich in music and deep cultural influences. She spends her time between music and photography. Since September 2019 making photographs for her ongoing photo essay, UpCountry.
Working in a recording studio for over twenty years as a photographer and vocalist, she currently photographs artists during recording sessions.
Sensitive to emotions, shadows, and light, Lisa's image-making focuses on gestures and lyrical beauty found in the moment.
She uses digital and film media, and historical photographic processing techniques, writing and researching her work from her studio, in a former rural community, twenty-eight miles from Manhattan.
StatementLisa Kachajian is an visual artist based in northern New Jersey. In my practice, I look for moments that are at once familiar, yet unexpected, residing within and outside of reality and illusion. Recent work also includes images that experience the natural world.
