Warren Irwin
Warren Irwin is a New Orleans native who has spent many years as an art educator and practicing artist. Among his credentials are a Bachelor of Arts in Art from Trinity University (TX) and a Master of Arts in Teaching Art from Jacksonville University (FL). He has shown his artwork in many New Orleans venues and is currently represented by Carol Robinson Gallery.
StatementDrawing has always come easily to me. That does not mean that I've always been good at making art. Art is something that has come only with intense study and time. In that process, I've seen many, many folks who have far superior drawing ability, and so the ideas have become critical in my quest to become a relevant artist. In recent years I've inclined toward creating a surface that is as vital to the piece as my mark making, and this particular surface is as appropriate a reflection of New Orleans, LA as I could hope for. The architects have done the design work for me over 300 years. I take on the job of packaging the city's vernacular elements into an image that an audience can assess for themselves.
